Narrated in the first person by an anonymous protagonist, identifiable with Arturo Belano, the novel tells the story of Alberto Ruiz-Tagle, a mysterious and attractive self-taught poet who frequents the literary workshops of Chile during the government of Salvador Allende and the Unidad Popular. After the 1973 coup d’état that ushers in the dictatorship of Augusto Pinochet, Ruiz-Tagle reveals his true identity, that of Carlos Wieder, a pilot in the Chilean Air Force (FACh) who begins to create a kind of revolutionary poetry, related to assassinations and writing in the sky piloting jet planes.
